Edmond Santa Fe’s Angelo Rankin – Coast Guard “Always Ready” Athlete of the month

By Derrick Smith

Most people want to be the best they can be, no matter what direction they go in life. Whether it is with their job, family, or other something else, they want to do their best. Angelo Rankin is an athlete at Edmond Santa Fe High School and says that sometimes you have to overcome things to finally break through.

“One of the things that makes me successful in my sports is my failure,” he said. “I have always wanted to be the best but to be the best you have to be Able to learn because I never had the god given body that some athletes had but he allowed me to work on my craft and learn. That’s why I have had so much success because I always wanna learn.”

Angelo is a senior and is a member of the Wolves’ football and track teams. He plays running back, wide receiver, defensive back, and is a returner on the football team, while he runs the hurdles and sprint relays in track. He has participated in both sports since middle school.

There have been numerous people that have influenced Rankin’s life over the years, but he says that there are a couple of people that have made the biggest impact.

“I have a lot of people who I look up to,” he said. “But overall it would be my brother Daemar, Greg Stevens, and Robert Grayson. Growing up without a dad, you miss out on a lot of things, but they all showed me how to be a man and what it takes to be successful and love God.”

During his time in the classroom, Angelo has had some really great teachers but he says that there is one teacher that made a big impact on his life.

“Mrs. Hankins stood out to me as my favorite,” he said. “She is very helpful in and outside of class. She was also very flexible during COVID and she is a great person to be around.”
