Union City Softball Preview – Presented By First National Bank & Trust Co.

With three returning seniors head coach Cody Schmidt has high expectations for this group in the upcoming season.

“We always set our expectations high,” said coach Schmidt. “We are seeking our first district title in our history. We have three seniors Kylie McCoy, Jordan Schmidt and Alexis Archer who we are hoping to take the reins and lead us to one.”

Alexis Archer is the unsung hero of the team. Her ability to lift other up and bring the energy to the field keeps the spirits up and drives her teammates to go out and compete.

“She (Archer) is someone we are counting on to keep a positive energy throughout the whole team. She’s a very hard worker and supports everyone around her,” said coach Schmidt.

One player to watch this season is Emily Griggs. Griggs will see a lot of time in the circle for the Lady Tigers. She is a competitor and a scrappy player. Griggs is the player you want when the game is close. Her play can help motivate this team to new heights.

“If Griggs can build on last year after only our second year of fastpitch ever, we will have a chance to do some great things this season,” said coach Schmidt. “I am excited for the journey of this team. We’re always preaching enjoy the moment and enjoy playing softball. I am just excited to see them put everything we have done in practice and offseason to work. Every year we have coached, each team has a different story and this year we are excited to learn about what this team’s story is going to be.”
