Tuttle Softball Preview – Presented by Patriot Heat – Air – Electric

Should the interlocking double-T school logo at Tuttle High School earn the Tigers the claim as Title Town?

With the recent success of the Lady Tigers fastpitch softball team having won state championships four times in the past five seasons including the 2020 crown, it definitely begs the question.

And with the depth of experience on the 2021 roster, there’s good reason to believe Tuttle can go back-to-back in Class 4A in October.

Head coach Rebecca Cobb’s lineup welcomes all but two seniors lost to graduation back to the dirt anchored by a senior led outfield unit including strong armed Kenlee Riley, Madi Surber and Zoey Plott.

“Those three girls are game changers with their speed and ability to play defense, said Cobb. “We spend a lot of time perfecting our defense that often results in winning the close games.”

Senior third baseman Shelby McAfee returns to handle the hot corner challenges for her fourth year in the starting lineup while junior catcher Kya Watson enters her third season behind the plate. Unfortunately an offseason season ending injury to would be second baseman Olivia McBurnett will need to be refilled.

In the circle there’s proven talent as sophomore pitchers Cami Cobb and Oakley Vickers will once again be challenging opposing hitters.

The Lady Tigers team speed consistently produces offensive highlights and added scoring chances up and down the batting order regardless which player is at the plate.

So what’s the key to the 2021 Lady Tigers winning another softball championship number twelve?

“We have to stay in the moment,” said Cobb. “Sure, our goal is to win it again but the key is not to focus on the end, but take the day by day baby steps and work together to have the chance to be where we want to be at end of year.”
