OFFENSE
Entering his first season leading Christian Heritage, head coach Joel Franks is excited about what the future holds. “We have a great opportunity with a special group of young men,” Franks said. “There is a great group of young talent mixed with a seasoned group of seniors. We are excited for what is to come.” The Crusader offense returns four starters from last year’s team, including quarterback Kye Davis (6-1, 195, Jr.). As a sophomore, Davis appeared in all 12 games, throwing for 1,177 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also ran for another 153 yards and two touchdowns. Davis also has one of his top receivers returning in junior Nate Jines. As a sophomore, Jines was third on the team with 368 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Jines is also a dynamic return man totaling over 330 return yards last season.
DEFENSE
Defensively, the Crusaders will run a 3-3 Stack defense. Leading the defense will be middle linebacker Bryce Graham (6-1, 160, So.). Graham recorded 57 tackles, five tackles for loss, and three sacks last season. Coach Franks said they are only expecting more great things from Graham this year. Joining Graham in the linebacking corps is Nate Jines. Jines, who played defensive back last season, had 26 tackles, one interception, and six pass breakups in 2020. In the secondary, junior Jake Hale returns at safety for the Crusaders after recording 74 tackles as a sophomore. Hale also intercepted three passes and broke up two more last season. Anchoring the defensive line for Christian Heritage is Spencer Smiley (6-2, 255, Sr.). Smiley recorded 15 tackles last season and will look to up those numbers as he sees more playing time. Joining Joel Franks on the Christian Heritage coaching staff are Rod Wolfard, Nick Davis, Cam Cargill, and Kyle Durham.
