OFFENSE

The Edmond North Huskies only return four starters on offense from last season’s team. Head coach Tanner Roof returns for his fifth year at the wheel for the Huskies and will look to have a turn-around season. Senior Ethan Barnes (6-3, 195) will be back under center for the Huskies, after throwing for 771 yards and nine touchdowns last year. One of Barnes’ favorite targets are returning in tight end Jonathon Hatton (6-5, 210, Sr.). Hatton, who uses his size to get open in the middle of the field, caught 18 passes for 199 yards and two touchdowns during his junior campaign. The Huskies will have a one-two punch in the backfield with senior running backs Garan Smith (6-0, 185) and Jarrett Whitefield (5-9, 175) looking to be big parts of the multiple spread offense. Smith and Whitefield combined for 325 yards on 72 carries last season. An up-and-coming player to watch for the Huskies is junior wide out Sedrick Frazier (5-10, 165), who is an explosive athlete and dangerous to opposing defenses in space. Despite not playing last season, Frazier has already picked up Division I offers, and should receive many more with a great junior season. The stable of Edmond North playmakers will look to run behind offensive lineman Trevor Meanor (6-4, 340, Sr.), who is one of the best linemen in 6AI. Lebron Jones (6-0, 195, Sr.) will start at linebacker for the Huskies, but could also see time at wide out.

DEFENSE

The Huskies only return three defensive starters from last season, but have key players who will be back, including star linebackers Jones and Wood Ingram (5-11, 180, Sr.). Jones and Ingram combined for 258 tackles, three sacks and two interceptions last season. “Lebron has been a playmaker for us the past two seasons on all sides of the ball, with his role expanding this season on the offensive side. He is a utility player who can do about anything on the field at a high level,” said Roof. Two other seniors who are looking to break out this year are defensive backs Jonathon Hunt (5-11, 195, Sr.) and Jabrion Plunket (5-9, 150, Sr.). Hunt, Plunket and the rest of the Edmond North secondary will have to have great seasons for the Huskies to see success in a 6AI class where there are great playmaking wide outs on every team they will face. The Huskies play a 3-4 defense where the line uses stunts to allow the linebackers to read the offense and get up the field when needed. Arttemus Jones (6-2, 285, Sr.) will be back at his defensive tackle spot for Edmond North, where he will look to clog things up the middle for opposing offenses. Assistant coaches include Chris Berus, Dale Brown, John Dewberry, Jeff Hock, Bryce Powers, Trey Northrip, Lamar Dewberry and Tyler Skelnar.
