Students attending the Southern Nazarene University master’s program in Sports Management come from all types of backgrounds. Justin Tate is not currently working in athletics however he plans to in the future.
“I wear two hats for the United States Air Force. I’m employed by the Department of Defense, as a Logistics Management Specialist for the C-12 Program Management Office (PMO), also I’m a traditional Reservist in the Air Force Reserves. I’m the Surveillance Section Chief for the 970th AACS (AWACS) Thumpers. Both of these positions are here at Tinker Air Force Base, in OKC,” said Tate.
There were several factors which led Tate to make the decision to attend SNU.
“I chose SNU for a few different reasons. First, nothing was more influential than my wife who attended SNU and received both her B.S. in Organizational Leadership, and her MBA with emphasis in HR,” said Tate.
The ability of the SNU program to fit his demanding schedule and the values of the course sealed the selection for Tate.
“Time is precious, and SNU gets it. A lot of universities don’t,” Tate said.
Tate also spoke about the people at SNU and the peers he has worked with while being part of the program.
“Every week when I arrive, Chaplain Samples is at the door with a big smile and a few words of welcome and encouragement. Sometimes he even has snacks and always has coffee. To some people this may not be noticed or appreciated, but to me it’s exactly what I need to boost my spirit before class begins. He is a real asset to the school and an important part of my week,” said Tate. “My classmates are world class. I have to admit that I wasn’t looking forward to going back to school and having classmates that are half my age, but what they lack in life experience, they more than make up for with intelligence, kindness, personality, and work ethic. I am constantly impressed with their aptitude and output.”
Tate said anyone wanting a great experience and a university that understands the challenges and demands of adulthood should consider SNU as their school of choice.
“It’s so worth it. I count it as a real blessing to be able to go back to school. This university cares for the students, it’s evident as soon as you walk in the building. The teachers are compassionate, empathetic, and full of wisdom. SNU has been such a Godsend to me and my family.”
