Putnam City North Panthers Basketball Team Previews – Presented By Phillip Goode Of Shelter Insurance

BOYS

Coach: Ryan Wagner

20-21 Record: 14-6

Expectations are high at Putnam City North as the Panthers under the leadership of coach Ryan Wagner are once again expected to compete for a state title. According to coach Wagner, the team is where they need to be. “We will once again be a title contender in the Class 6A state tournament,” said Wagner. Zander Baker (6-0, Jr.) is one player expected to make a big impact this season at one of the guard spots. The big man, Kaidon Rayfield (6-7, Fr.) enters his first season of varsity play with high expectations for himself and what he can bring to the floor for the Panthers. Rayfield could be a big difference maker this season despite being a freshman. DJ Stephens (6-0) is another guard with good experience returning for coach Wagner. Stephens will have someone to look for down low with Jonathan Tonkumoh (6-5) in the paint. Several younger players must mature into roles that will likely require them to pick up valuable minutes this season. Those players are key to the Panthers having good depth if they are going to make a splash in the state tournament.

GIRLS

Coach: Logan Martin

20-21 Record: 14-7

With an excellent senior class in place, head coach Logan Martin is excited to see what this team can accomplish this season. “This year we have a strong returning senior class,” said Martin. “This experience should help us out down the stretch.” Guard play is crucial and coach Martin has a good combo guard in Karrigan Powell (6-0, Sr.). A matchup problem for everyone, Powell averaged 8.0 points with 7.0 rebounds last season. Her numbers are almost guaranteed to climb. Paris Hardwick (6-0, Sr.) is another bigtime player who averaged 7.0 points last year. Hardwick is a nice compliment to Powell and together they are nearly unstoppable. Jasmine McCloud (5-8, Sr.) has an excellent three point shot while Jaiah Vicks (5-6, Sr.) is tough on the defensive end of the court. Another shooter to watch is Alaysia Burrough (5-7, So.). Both can shoot the lights out of the gym. Nevaeh Sanchez (5-6, So.), Auhnesty Hawkins (5-7, Fr.) and Nini Geretta (5-7, Fr.) are all expected to help the team this season.
