Meeker Bulldogs Basketball Team Preview – Presented By Gordon Cooper Tech

BOYS

Coach: Randy Ragland

20-21 Record: 8-12

With only three seniors on the roster, Meeker head coach Randy Ragland knows his team will be young but he also thinks their hard work will pay off. “We will be a much younger team this year but we had a very good offseason,” says Ragland. “These guys have worked really hard on their bodies and game this summer. I’m excited to see their hard work come to fruition and I expect a much more physical brand of basketball from us.” Zach Cook (6-3, Sr.) is one of the three seniors for Meeker and he is back after averaging 5.0 points and 9.0 rebounds last year before suffering a season ending injury. “Zach was really starting to hit his stride last year before his injury,” Ragland says. “He is going to be our anchor on both ends of the floor. He is the heart and soul of our team.” The glue guy for Meeker is Evan Tirey (6-1, Sr.). “Evan is going to be taking on a much bigger role for us this year being one of our three seniors,” says Ragland. “He does a lot of the dirty work for us that goes unnoticed.” Braxton Bussell (5-10, Jr.) is top returning scorer for Meeker. He averaged 10.0 points and 4.0 assists for the Bulldogs and Ragland is expecting to see a big jump from him on both ends of the floor. An underclassman that has impressed Ragland is Duce Compton (5-8, Fr.). “Duce has shown the potential this summer to be a legit scoring threat for us,” says Ragland. Other players expected to contribute for the Bulldogs are Jason Brewer (5-10, Jr.), Devin Sligar (6-0, Jr.), and Manny Saavedra (6-0, Fr.).

GIRLS

Coach: Brady Dukes

20-21 Record: 2-19

With just one returning starter from last year’s team, Meeker girls basketball head coach Brady Dukes knows his team is young but he is excited about what they bring every day. “We will be very young this season but these girls are a competitive and coachable group,” says Dukes. “We will be very strong defensively and our offense has continued to improve year by year.” After sitting out last year after transferring from North Rock Creek, Breanna Pearcy (5-4, Sr.) is expected to be one of the leaders for the Lady Bulldogs. “Breanna is an overall definition of a student-athlete,” says Dukes. “She’s a quality kid, gym rat, and very good shooter.” Mary Beth Frerichs (5-10, Sr.) is the only returning starter for Meeker and is a good center with a high basketball I.Q. on both sides of the floor. Lauren Miller (5-4, Jr.) is the vocal leader for Meeker who is a skilled player with a strong work ethic. Tatum Pino (Soph.) will be the primary ball handler for Meeker. “Tatum is an all-around athlete for our school and make a huge difference in game no matter what sport it is,” says Dukes. Other players expected to contribute for the Lady Bulldogs are Abby Dushack (5-6, Jr.), Aviary Helms (5-9, So.), and Annsley Babek (5-8, So.).
