Piedmont’s Caleb Lunnon – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By BancFirst

By Derrick Smith

Piedmont’s Caleb Lunnon has a favorite moment in his sport that jumped to the top of his list recently.

“The highlight of my career was beating Carl Albert last year,” he said. “I have a couple friends that play for Carl Albert and they were so stacked. Our whole team was so hype when we beat them. They had an insane squad and we were all so excited when we beat them. They went on to win state that year.”

Caleb is a senior at Piedmont High School and a pitcher for the Wildcats baseball team. He picked up his first bat and ball when he was four years old and he has not put it down since. His love for baseball comes from his dad, who Caleb says is one of his biggest role models.

“I have a couple of role models in my life,” he said. “My dad is the biggest influence in my life. He is the reason why I got into baseball. His whole family was pretty good. Unfortunately, he got injured his senior year and couldn’t find a good opportunity to go play in college. I’m just trying to carry on his legacy since he didn’t get an opportunity to play at the higher level. He always pushes me and wants the best for me. He’s helped me so much from when I was a kid and made me what I am today.”

“I’ve been a huge OU fan growing up and Baker Mayfield is my favorite athlete of all time,” Caleb continued speaking of role models. “I love how he doesn’t care what other people think of him. He just goes out and plays to his style.”

He says that there is another person that has impacted his life and that was a former weightlifting coach.

“Coach Abbott was my weightlifting coach during my sophomore and junior years,” he said. “I hadn’t touched a weight since my freshman year. Even then we never had a strength coach. He was my first ever weightlifting coach and showed me how to lift properly.”
