Tuttle’s Tylor McCarthey – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Patriot Heat & Air

The tradition of success at Tuttle High School continues to grow as the sports teams at the Grady County suburb of the Oklahoma City metro area continue their winning ways. Tuttle, referred to by some as “Title Town” has earned 78 state championships as the community growth has exploded by more than 40 percent since the beginning of the 21st century. At the foundation of the success are the lifetime influences of athletes like three-sport standout Tylor McCarthey, a member of the 2022 senior class.

“I’m a fifth generation Tuttle Tiger,” McCarthey said with pride while explaining the winning results of the sports teams. “Tuttle is successful due to the standard that was set from people before and continues to be successful because every single one of the coaches work hard day in and day out, and that feeds off onto the players.”

McCarthey, who stands 6-foot-7 and tips the scales at 240 pounds, played a key role in the Tigers reaching the Class 4A state finals in football as well as an inside force on the basketball court in addition to playing golf during the spring sports season.

“Playing three sports has taught me to be versatile.  Each of the sports I play is different in their own way and teaches their own lessons.”

His favorite sport is football and McCarthey’s talents on the gridiron earned him a scholarship offer from the University of Central Oklahoma.

“It felt like home when I visited UCO.  The coaches were welcoming and fun to be around, and that was the environment I was brought up in, so I knew immediately that’s what I wanted.”

What you see is what you get with McCarthey whose championship dinner menu includes steak (medium-well), a bloomin’ onion from Outback, loaded baked potato, salad, and mac and cheese while background music playing sets the mood as McCarthey’s country music playlist includes chart topping tunes by George Strait and Zach Bryan.

Describing himself as hardworking and fun, McCarthey values the importance of respect and character in his every thought and action.

“Respectful is most important to me because it means you care for others around you such as family, friends, teammates, coaches, and teachers,” McCarthey replied in a humble tone. “Character reflects yourself, your family, and others around you.  It is important to carry yourself in a positive way to set a good example for the younger generation that looks up to us.”

Tylor McCarthey’s winning approach continues to carry on the tradition of success of the Tuttle Tigers, on and off the fields of play. And as he approaches graduation, he’ll move the tassel knowing he’s done his best to ensure the future for those that follow in his footsteps.

“I am very proud to be able to wear a Tuttle jersey because it represents a winning tradition, good sportsmanship, and an amazing community.”
