Jones’ Keylee Guthery – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Blue & Gold Sausage Co.

By Derrick Smith

It takes a lot of hard work in order to become a great athlete, no matter at what level you are competing. With all that work, it can become tough to stay focused, but Keylee Guthery says that she and her teammates are able to keep each other going and working.

“My best friend, MaKena Cruz, is someone I like to go up against at practice,” Guthery said. “She is a hard worker and great competitor. Also, when we get tired, we are able to push each other to keep working harder. Another teammate, Channing Lipe, is probably a little underrated. When we are in game settings she does her job no matter what. When we need someone on base, she can be depended on to get there.”

Keylee is a senior at Jones High School. She plays softball and competes on the track and field team by throwing the discus. Like a lot of high school students, Guthery enjoys following a lot of famous people on social media. But she says that there is one team that she enjoys following the most because they get the work done and they have fun doing it.

“I think my favorite follow on social media is the Oklahoma State Cowgirls softball team,” she said. “I like to watch their posts because it is cool to see the hard work that they put in and how it is executed on the field. Plus, they always have fun.”

While competing in her sports, Keylee has had some very memorable moments, but she says that a moment at the state track and field meet during her junior year stands out as her favorite.

“A thrower from Marlow was in the lead with one throw left,” she recalled. “I knew I needed just an inch to beat her. I went in the ring and did my job and won the discus state championship. It was a really great feeling.”

Throughout her career Keylee says that she has had a lot of support that has been a huge encouragement for her.

“My family and my coaches have been very supportive of me,” she said. “They believe in me when I’m not at my best and motivate me to work harder.”
