Western Heights Football Preview – Presented by First National Bank

2021: 0-10

Head Coach – Tim McCarty

OFFENSE:

The Western Heights Jets are looking to rebound this season after a tough 2021 campaign, but head coach Tim McCarty is excited to kick off the fall schedule. The Jets are a young team this year, with only a few upperclassmen, and will have lots of underclassmen looking to play heavy minutes and gain experience over the course of the season. Coach McCarty believes he has a good group of guys ready and willing to step up to the challenge and compete week in and out. The Jets will return four starters on offense. Jeremy Wohrley (6-0, 270, Sr.) and Nestor Terrazas (5-10, 250, Sr.) will be big bodies up front in the trenches with good experience between the two. Felipe Melendez (6-0, 180, Sr.) will be lined up at wide receiver going into his senior year and Jayshawn Lewis (5-11, 175, So.) is an underclassman who has already made an impression on coaches. Expect Lewis and Melendez to spread the field for the Jets offense this year both vertically and horizontally. Ben Sparks (5-11, 175, Jr.) will handle the majority of snaps out of the backfield and brings toughness to the Jets ground attack. Dallas Fields (6-1, 215, Jr.) has good size at the tight end formation and will allow Western Heights to mix up some of their offensive alignments and bring multiple looks, however, expect them to primarily align in a true pro style formation.

DEFENSE:

Similar to the Offense, the Jets will be fairly young on the defensive side of the ball and will rely on some of their more experienced playmakers to pull double duties by key roles on both offense and defense. Wohrley is a force from the nose tackle and can draw double teams in a hurry. The Jets like to attack gaps and play fast out of a 3-3 stack. Wohrley does a good job from the nose tackle position of clogging running lanes and allowing linebackers to break free. Terrazas brings pressure off the defensive edge with and will look to collapse the pocket. Melendez is tasked with shrinking the field from linebacker when lined up on defense and shooting through gaps. Chris Graham (5-11, 165, So.) has also impressed coaches and is expected to play significant minutes from his role at outside linebacker.
