Community Christian Royals Football Preview – Presented By Danielle Hill and Joe White with Shelter Insurance

MAT MCINTOSH

9-3

OFFENSE

After graduating a very good senior class, Community Christian head coach Mat McIntosh knows the development of his players will be key. That is exponentially true on the offensive side of the ball where only four starters return from last year’s playoff team. CCS will spread out their offense but will lean a little more heavily on the run due to their talented, but inexperienced, offensive line. Leading the offensive attack is quarterback Zach Darden (6-1, 170, Sr.). Darden will have a few weapons to work with, including Braxton Hartsock (5-10, 160, Jr.). Hartsock is a slot receiver who tallied 25 catches for 400 yards and five touchdowns a year ago. Also contributing on offense will be VYPE Top 100 player Bai Jobe (6-5, 225, Sr.). Jobe, who is a highly recruited defensive player, will be asked to carry a bigger load offensively this year as the CCS coaches look to take advantage of his athleticism. Leading the young, but talented, offensive line is Luke Wells (6-1, 240, Sr.) and AJ Shadid (6-3, 240, So.). Both are talented players with Shadid currently rated as one of the state’s top 2025 offensive linemen.

DEFENSE

With seven returning starters, the defense will likely be the strength of this CCS team this season. The Royals will use a 3-4 base defense designed to highlight VYPE 100 player Bai Jobe. McIntosh says the CCS coaches will move Jobe around and that he will see snaps at every position in the box. Jobe recorded 56 tackles and 16.5 sacks a season ago and currently holds scholarship offers from just about every major college program in the country. While Jobe might the focus of the defense, he’s not the only defensive playmaker. Quinn Colvin (5-9, 165, Sr.) is back after recording 68 tackles a year ago. McIntosh says Colvin is a leader by example both on and off the field. Joining Colvin in the secondary is Zach Darden, who had five interceptions last season. The linebackers are led by Drew Bradley (5-10, 185, Jr.) and Grayson McGuire (5-11, 185, So.). Those two combined for 109 tackles a season ago. Up front, Luke Wells will be tasked with eating up blockers from his nose tackle position. Assisting McIntosh this year are Todd Acton, RJ Adame, Mike Blair, Jason Clements, Joel Cortez, Matt Cox, Brandon Hodge, Chris Potter, and Paul Potter.
