Going to the state softball playoffs is just as much an expected of the Washington Warriors as getting a drink in the dugout between innings. Washington has dominated softball with eight state titles in fastpitch and 13 in slow- pitch and are the current reigning champs in both sports. Last fall they run- ruled all three of their opponents at state in three shutout games. And it doesn’t look like this fall should be much different according to head coach Tylor Lampkin. “We’re coming off the 3A state championship last year and return 7-9 starters off that team. We’ll be senior-heavy and have a great group of young kids looking to earn a starting spot.” With their history and returning starts, the Warriors have three players that are VYPE Top 100 candidates starting with pitcher Maggie Place.

“Maggie has pitched in three state championship games for us, winning one and being runner-up twice,” said Lampkin. “She had an ERA under one last year and hit .394 with four home runs and 40 RBIs and she’ll be playing at Oklahoma Baptist next year.”

Another VYPE Top 100 selectee is her battery-mate, catcher Tinley Lucas who is a four-year starter behind the plate and one of the best catchers in the state Lamkin feels. She’s also DI bound to Grand Canyon University next year. The third is Ellie Loveless who has several D1 offers she’s still considering and is a player that Lampkin says is a hard-working kid who gives 110 percent all the time.

The head coach also mentioned newcomers looking to make their mark this year and among those is Olivia Palumbo that will be looking for a starting spot in the Warriors’ outfield as well as some time in the pitching circle. Also look for Elly Allison and Daisy Lampkin to Contribute this season. Allison will start at third base and will likely lead the team in home runs again this season.

Lampkin is a hard-worker and leads the dugout. Given the tradition, the stable of returning starters and what seems to be a continual flow of young talent to the program, there’s every reason to expect to see the Washington Warriors at Hall of Fame Stadium again this October.
