OFFENSE

Oklahoma’s all-time leader in wins, Mike Snyder begins his 50th season in Seminole and 43rd year as head coach. And the wins keep piling up. Nine more in 2021 and expectations to rival that number in 2022. The offensive backfield is filled with experience. Vcake Wassana (6-0, 170, Sr.) threw for 1,105 yards and 10 touchdowns. Seminole will operate out of multiple formations with an emphasis on the quarterback run game. Wassana has the versatility to be a dual threat as does emerging star Deontrey Garfield (6-0, 160, So.), who will see situational time at quarterback and other positions on offense. Jason Batiste (6-0, 175, Sr.) rushed for 545 yards and five touchdowns. Batiste and Garret Chaffin (6-0, 190, Sr.) will once again share the running back duties. Chaffanfin rushed for 350 yards and four touchdowns on his own. Braxton Street (5-10, 165, Sr.) caught five touchdown passes and is a quick strike threat. Snyder calls Street one of the best three-way players he’s had in many years. Street is a four-year starter and can score from anywhere on the field, especially in the return game. Jayden Stewart (6-0, 205, Jr.) is the lone returning starter on the offensive line at center. The Chieftains will count on some new faces up front and they will have to get acclimated in a hurry with a difficult early season schedule that includes Texas powerhouse Canadian and Class 5A Shawnee. 

DEFENSE

The secondary should be one of the best in Class 3A. Vcake Wassana, Braxton Street and Deontrey Garfield can all fly. Snyder believes his team’s ability to run to the football is paramount to its success. Quarterbacks will have to be extra careful lofting the ball against this Chieftains secondary, especially Street, who had four interceptions in 2021. Isaiah Cochrane (6-2, 210, Sr.) and Martez Johnson (6-2, 240, So.) return to two of the down positions in the Chieftains four-man front. Competition will decide who will join them at the other defensive tackle and end position. Chaffin and Miguel Conley (6-0, 220, Sr.) add size to the defense at linebacker. Conley finished just shy of 100 tackles last year as a junior. Peyton Griffin (6-1, 190, Sr.) and Carson Morgan (5-10, 150, Sr.) will also see time on defense. Morgan is a third generational player for the iconic Snyder, who also coached his grandfather. Lincoln Christian has ruled the roost in the Chieftains district for the last three seasons. Seminole will be looking to return to district supremacy for the first time since 2014.
