Multisports Athlete of the Month: Edmond Santa Fe’s Audrey Bird – Presented by Multisports

Athletes have to put in a lot of preparation in order to be ready to compete on game day. Whether it is doing the physical work or getting ready mentally, the level of readiness will be reflected on the field or court. Edmond Santa Fe’s Audrey Bird knows what it takes to be her best and she has seen the fruits of her labor. “It takes a lot of time and dedication,” she stated. “Countless hours in the gym. But it also takes a love for the game. If there’s no drive or reason, there’s no end goal. I have had some great moments during my career, but my highlight moment has definitely been winning a bid to nationals at the Show Me National Qualifier.”

Bird, who is a senior, plays middle blocker on the Lady Wolves’ volleyball team. She says that as an athlete in the city of Edmond, the other schools in the area are the ones she likes beating the most. “I love beating the other schools in Edmond district,” Bird said. “Memorial and North are both highly competitive and insanely talented, so we’re always putting our heart into those games and so when we win, it’s the best feeling because all of our hard work paid off. Those games are also so fun because the crowds are always loud and the volleyball team is very appreciative of
them.”

Throughout her career, Audrey has had people that have had an influence on her, both as an athlete and as a person. She says that she would not be where she is today without them. “The biggest influences are definitely my parents, without a doubt. They have taught me the value of work hard and how to always be flexible. They are my biggest cheerleaders, and I know they’re always in my corner.

Mrs. Lopez, who was one of our assistant coaches made a big impact on me. She moved to Wyoming, but when she was here, she gave me a new perspective of the game, and a new love for it too. She helped me in many ways both on and off the court.” Outside of sports, Bird is also a member of the student council and the National Honor Society.
