OFFENSE

The Longhorns are hungry for some football after dropping a third round playoff game to the eventual state runner-up Washington. It was a close game and only left the Longhorn players wanting more. Coach Dave Martin believes this may be their year to shine. “Returning several players who have started multiple years in our program,” said Martin. “Looking for this team to put us back into contention for a state title.” The leader of the pack needs no introduction. Carson May (6-5, 215, Sr.) has 5,467 passing yards and 50 touchdowns his career making him one of the most productive and lethal quarterbacks in the state. One of his favorite targets will make his return as well in Caydn Karl (6-2, 185, Sr.) who had 1,066 yards and 12 scores. Emmett Murphy (6-4, 175, Sr.) is another productive wide receiver for Jones. Murphy added 600 yards and four touchdowns. The offensive line features Jack Corbin (6-5, 290, Sr.), Reese Webb (6-3, 285, Sr.) and John Dolan (5-11, 220, Sr.) at center. The Longhorns will run a spread formation but maintain a balanced run/pass game. May is a VYPE Top 100 selectee.

DEFENSE

Coach Martin plans to run a 3-3-5 scheme on defense with multiple fronts and mixed coverage. The team speed and athleticism of the Longhorn defense is showcased in the 3-3-5. Will Irvine (6-3, 190, Sr.) is an old school banger at linebacker. His size is intimidating and his speed to the ball is impressive. Strong safety Braiden Martin (5-9, 170, Sr.) is the type of hard-hitting strong safety every coach wants. TJ Thomson (5-11, 225, Sr.) will start at defensive end opposite Kameron Estrada (6-1, 230, Jr.). Both guys are quick off the edge and tough to run around. Kameron Sweat (5-11, 175, Sr.) will likely play one of the corner spots. Also look for Raymond Correa (6-4, 285, So.) to be the run stopper up the middle at nose guard. Teams will look to slow him down with a double-team, but it may take more than that to slow the big man down. There are a couple of spots to fill at linebacker but look for a few new faces to step in and make a difference this season.
