OFFENSE 

Last season the Bethel Wildcats picked up their first ever playoff win and first home playoff game. Building off that growth is exactly what head coach Joey Ginn is looking to do in 2021. With six returning starters on offense, Ginn is ready to see how good this team can be. “Our goal on offense is to create opportunities for our athletes and find ways to get them the ball in space,” said Ginn. One player who will see time on both sides of the ball is VYPE Top 100 selectee Corey Metscher (6-1, 205, Sr.). Last season Metscher rushed for 819 yards on 107 carries scoring 11 touchdowns. He also caught 29 passes for 226 yards. His production is crucial for the team’s overall success. John Gordon (6-3, 195, Sr.) and Gage Porter (6-0, 175, Sr.) are two big-play receivers the offense will need this season. Gordon accounted for 895 yards and 43 catches with 10 scores, while Porter had 244 yards on 22 receptions with two touchdowns. An X-factor this season could be Xavier Meier (6-3, 175, Jr.) who contributed last season, but is more experienced now and ready to become one of the top players at his position. The offensive line features CJ Compton (6-6, 300, Jr.) and Dominick Contreras (6-4, 250, Sr.). Compton is a three-year starter and Contreras is one of the more versatile linemen in the class. 

DEFENSE

Metscher is one of the top linebackers in the state regardless of class. Last season he grabbed 102 tackles, giving him 304 for his career. A four-year starter, Metscher is the heart and soul of the defense. Another player the Wildcats need in a big way is John Allred (6-0, 190, Jr.). Allred had 75 tackles from his secondary spot with one pick. Porter is another secondary player looking to make his mark. Last season he grabbed 45 tackles with four pass breakups and six interceptions. The defensive line features TJ Ramsey (6-2, 200, Sr.), Bronc Robbins (6-6, 200, Jr.) and Contreras who made 25 tackles last year. Ramsey accounted for 56 tackles and five sacks while Robbins made 48 tackles and 12 tackles for loss in only four and a half games. Colby Thompson is another player Bethel is expecting big things from this season. Last year he showed up big in several games and could have his best season yet.
