OFFENSE
The Bulldogs first year head coach Maverick Lang inherited a team that has seen some success in the recent past, going 22-11 the previous three seasons. Lang knows the potential that his team has and is excited to see things come together this season. “These kids did a really good job this spring and summer,” he said. “They learned an entirely new offensive and defensive scheme. I am impressed with their progress and have high expectations for them this season.” Ty Gabbert (6-0, 175, Jr.) will be at quarterback this season, looking to guide the Bulldogs offense. Two of the guys protecting him upfront will be tackle Bobby Brooks (6-6, 250, So.) and guard Conner Wolf (5-11, 200, Jr.). Gabbert will also have skill players at his disposal, including running back Brett Mingo (5-10, 180, Sr.) and wide receivers Keavin Grady (5-8, 175, Sr.) and Braden Harris (6-2, 180, Jr.). These skill players are speedy, which could allow the team to really cause problems for opposing defenses.
DEFENSE
The defense enters this season with only three returning starters. But Lang says the team will have to depend on their strengths in order to be successful. “We will utilize our team speed on the defensive side of the ball,” Lang said. “Brooks and Wolfe will anchor our defense with both playing at the defensive end positions. They are both big body kids that are very physical and explosive off the line.” Jason Brewer (5-11, 170, Jr.) and Grady will patrol the secondary and work to shut down opposing receivers and keep the big plays to a minimum. In the middle of the defense, helping shut down the run game and the pass game are linebackers Kayde Massey (6-1, 185, So.) and Harris. Joining Lang’s staff as assistant coaches are Allan Potts, Kyle Colvin, Shane Morrow, and Austin Bizzell.
