Putnam City Pirates Basketball Team Preview – Presented By Phillip Goode Of Shelter Insurance

BOYS

Coach: Garland Parks

20-21 Record: 3-10

Entering his second season leading the Putnam City Pirates, head coach Garland Parks his hoping his experienced upperclassmen and talented young guys will be a successful combination. “This team will have to rely on its senior leadership and talented underclassmen in order to be successful this year.” Isaac Williams (6-0, Soph.) is one of those talented underclassmen. “Isaac is high IQ basketball player,” Parks says. “He has the ability to score in addition to be able to create opportunities for his teammates.” Edward Nnonah (6-3, Sr.), Preston Carr (6-2, Sr.), Justice Jones (6-1, Sr.), Dmarkuz Denson (6-4, Sr.), Marquese Smith (5-10, Sr.), Temare Nichols (6-2, Sr.) are the senior leaders that Parks will rely on. Jeremiah Weay (5-10, Jr.), Jaylen Thomas (5-10, So.), Michael Booker (5-8, Jr.), Ronald Graham (5-9, So.), Terry Jones (5-8, So.), Adrian Anderson Nelson (6-1, Soph.), and Warren Du (5-10, So.) will also be relied upon to contribute for the Pirates this season. 

GIRLS

Coach: Tiamber Naff

20-21 Record: 6-13

Putnam City girls’ basketball coach Tiamber Naff believes her Lady Pirates a team on the rise. “We are returning three key starters that will contribute heavily to scoring load of the team,” says Naff. “This team should be fun to watch this season!” A’Munique Holmes (5-7, Sr.) is a combo guard that can handle the ball and score in multiple ways. Asia Johnson (5-4, Jr.) is a point guard that has good vision. “Asia is a leader by example,” says Naff. “She works hard and is an extension of the coach on the floor.” Jasmeen Lee (5-8, So.) is an underclassman Naff is excited to see grow as a player. “Jasmeen is a young and upcoming talent,” Naff says. “She is athletic and has a midrange jumper, can hit the deep ball, and drive to the hoop.” Alexus Robinson (6-0, Sr.), Iyonna Davis (5-11, Sr.), Angel Green (5-11, Jr.) and Cemekia Maxey (5-11, Jr.) are also expected to play key roles for Putnam City this season.
