El Reno Indian Basketball Team Preview

BOYS

Coach: Rodney Haydon

20-21 Record: 11-9

The Indians are coming off of a solid season a year ago but will have to replace all five starters. Head coach Rodney Haydon says that he has the guys to step up and fill the spots and he looks for them to have a solid season. “We have guys that will be able to step in without much of a drop-off,” he said. “Developing our depth and continuity will be the biggest adjustment early in the season that should get better by playoff time.” Dom Havern (5-8, Sr.) will be a first-year starter, but he had plenty of playing experience. He will also be called on to be a leader for this team. James Reveles (6-2, Jr.) will be called on to play center. He is a solid scorer in the paint and was a key player in the playoffs last season. Jacob Robertson (6-2, Jr.) can rebound really well and cause a lot of matchup problems.

Forward Evan RomanNose (6-1, Jr.) is an outstanding athlete that will be asked to play a lot of minutes. Deonte Washington (5-10, So.) is a very good three-point shooter that will get even better with each game he plays. Guard Vincent Walker (5-11, Sr.) is a hard-nosed defensive player that can take away the opponent’s best player. Other players to watch will be Carter RomanNonse (6-0, Fr.), Jonathon Reed (5-11, Fr.), Tre Davis (6-4, Fr.), Matthew Topfi (6-1, Sr.), and Josiah Reveles (6-0, So.).

GIRLS

Coach: Jennifer Douglas

20-21 Record: 15-6

The Lady Indians fell just two games short of every team’s goal, a state championship. Head coach Jennifer Douglas says that her squad is ready to get back and vie for the gold ball.
“We are returning two of our three best players from the semi-finalist team from a year ago,” Douglas said. “We are hungry and eager to play a full season. We will work to push the tempo and just have fun.” Guard Ashlyn Evans-Thompson (5-9, Sr.) looks to have another solid year this year. She joined the 1,000-point club as a junior and has already committed to play at East Central University next season. Tetona Woods-Blackowl (5-5, Sr.) is back after averaging seven points and 3.4 rebounds. Freshman standout a year ago, Pauline Black-Harmon (6-0, So.) is a versatile player on both ends of the court. Jane Black-Harmon (5-9, Sr.) is a freak athlete that looks to have a lot of game time this season.

Paige Primeaux (6-0, Sr.) has been in the starting rotation the last two years. She is more mobile, and she could be playing out on the perimeter some this season. Sophomore Nazhoni Sleeper (5-6, So.) is looking to make some noise on the varsity team this season. She is expected to score and become a vocal leader. Nevaeh Sage (5-7, So.) will look to be a main part of the rotation. She is aggressive on both ends of the floor.
