BOYS
Coach: Kevin Cobbs
20-21 Record: 17-9
Head coach Kevin Cobbs has spent 12 seasons at Southwest Covenant and in that time he has enjoyed some quality basketball teams. This season he returns what could be one of his best. “Very balanced team with good depth at every position,” said Cobbs. “Ended last year with a good run to the Area tournament. That experience should motivate this young group to play at a high level once again.” One player to keep an eye on is Anthony Cox (6-3, Sr.). The senior averaged 11 points and 9.0 rebounds a game and is one of the leaders of this team. Cox will play the post for the Patriots this season. Michael Moriasi (6-2, So.) is a talented underclassman who contributed as a freshman. The coaching staff expects Moriasi to have a breakout type season. Anderson Davis (6-3, Jr.) has fought through some injuries to contribute to the run in the Area tournament last year. Expect Davis to be ready for action when the first game tips off. Also look for Tucker Croy at point guard. Croy is all about the team first concept and will do the little things to help this team succeed. Bryson Ford should be a returning starter and someone coach Cobbs calls a “quality young man,” but due to a career ending injury during football season, Ford can only cheer his team on from the sidelines. Look for Ford to be the emotional leader that inspires his teammates to work hard and push themselves this season.
GIRLS
Coach: Becky Mitchell
Things are looking for up for head coach Becky Mitchell with the return of several players to the starting lineup. Including a VYPE Top 100 player in Abby Schroeder (5-9, Sr.) at point guard. Schroeder averaged 15 points a game with 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists. She is a leader and outstanding player who can step in play all five spots. Makenzie Moseley (6-1, So.) will return at center/forward where she averaged 4.0 points and 6.0 rebounds a game as a freshman. Maria Moriasi (6-1, Fr.) is another post player coach Mitchell is excited to see on the floor. The post players are young, but she is expecting them to be a major factor for the team. Annabelle Mitchell (5-9, Fr.) can play guard or forward and is one of the underclassmen expected to step into a varsity role and produce. Aubrey Allison (5-2, Fr.) will see time at point, with Abby Mitchell (5-1, Jr.) playing guard and Aubrey Neff (5-5, Fr.) at guard. Also look for Hailey Dunnington who is the ultimate team player and someone who works hard every day to make her teammates better.
