With a few regular season tournaments remaining, the Bethany Boys and Girls Golf teams are excited to be simultaneously playing their best golf this postseason. Last season, the boys placed third at the regional tournament which qualified them for the state tournament in Class 4A.
“We have a big advantage with our experience, but we also have a handful of new talent with some freshmen and upperclassmen coming from different sports,” coach Ryley Claborn said. “We are excited to showcase our talent this year and hope to propel Bethany golf to a top-level team.”
Leading the experienced group is senior Conner Compton who is a four-years starter for the Bronchos. Compton is coming off a top-five finish at the regional tournament last season and is committed to play golf at Seminole State College next year.
A couple of other key returners for the Bronchos are senior David Reed and sophomore Andrew David. Reed joined the golf team last season as a junior and has shown huge strides in a short period while David is an underclassman to watch this season.
“I’m proud of David and how he has progressed through the offseason, and I’m excited to see him continue to do so this season,” Claborn said. “Andrew has a lot of talent and has been a vital piece for us this season.”
Rounding out the boys’ roster are senior Kyle Lynn, junior Coleton Calderon, and freshmen Wyatt Giessler, Garrett Johnson, and Jackson Payne.
The Lady Bronchos are led by freshman Jacquelynne Self who is an experienced golfer having competed in multiple tournaments before joining the team this season.
“[Jacquelynne] is a tremendous golfer with a great short game and putting,” Claborn said. “She works hard and is very coachable. The sky is the limit for her.”
Behind Self are a pair of fellow underclassmen in sophomores Kate Thomas and Ava Dorris, who lead a young Bethany team this season.
“Kate has improved tremendously this year,” Claborn said. “She can hit the ball a long way and is extremely competitive. Ava isn’t very experienced, but she’s an incredible competitor. She continues to have a great attitude and great work ethic.”
