Edmond North’s Hannah Baty – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Integris Health Edmond

Edmond North senior Hannah Baty has been a cheerleader for the last decade, including being a part of competitive cheer outside of her high school team. During that time, she accumulated three state championships, two academic championships, and two regional championships. Throughout her career there is one moment that stands out to her.

“My favorite memory is competing at state,” she said. “Walking out on the mat with all of my teammates, seeing the whole crowd standing, cheering, and wearing our “We Heart Husky Cheer” shirts, knowing that we are ready to hit our routine that we have been preparing for and then walking off the mat after hitting our routine- it gives me the chills every time.”

Unfortunately, earlier this year she suffered a multiple-tear injury that resulted in surgery in October. Baty said her recovery is going well and she is choosing to look at the positives in her life and continues to be a great supporter of her team.

“I have been able to still make my senior year as fun as it can be,” she said. “Actually, the day I was hurt and in the ER, I received a text that I was nominated for football homecoming queen which was something great I could do while injured. Even though my injury was a major setback in my cheer career, and I didn’t get to compete at my last state competition, I still had so much fun supporting my teammates. They made sure to never make me feel like I was injured and watching them hit their routine and win at state was one of the best feelings.”

Baty said that she looks up to her mother, Halee Morefield, as her role model.

“She works so hard to give my sisters and I the best life we could ask for,” said Baty. “She’s always encouraging me and pushes me to be my best. She puts everyone before herself.”

Baty has earned an academic scholarship to attend the University of Oklahoma, where she plans to join a sorority and study to become a pharmacist.
