When Bethany High School senior DJ Peck first started cheerleading seven years ago, she knew it was going to be a lot of hard work and a lot of fun. Now that she is in her final year of cheer with Bethany, Peck is thankful for all the great memories she has shared with her friends and teammates.
“It’s such a fun night that I look forward to every week. Cheering on the football team on the sidelines is a memory I’m so happy I get to experience every Friday,” Peck said. “My favorite moment is last year when we scored a touchdown and me and a couple other cheerleaders threw our mascot in the air, and he went flying. It was so funny, and we were so hype that game.”
Peck and her teammates are the “talk of the tailgate,” thanks to their school spirit and passion for all sports at Bethany High School.
“I love being able to grow together. Seeing each other progress as an athlete and as a person really bonds our team. And of course, what I love the most about my teammates is the laughter they always bring to any event,” said Peck.
As a student-athlete at Bethany, Peck said what makes her school such a great place are the opportunities the students have to succeed.
“The teachers at BHS are all in to help you. There are great opportunities given at the school that create a better school experience. The staff overall are what really make BHS one of the best schools,” said Peck.
Once her cheering days come to an end, Peck said she will miss being on the sidelines the most.
“I will definitely miss cheering with my teammates on the sidelines the most. There’s just something about being on the field that makes you more hype and focused on the game,” said Peck.
The next chapter for Peck involves college and a step towards a possible career in the Armed Forces. “I plan on going to college and doing ROTC. I’m undecided on where I want to attend college, but I plan on majoring in international relations,” said Peck.
