Piedmont’s Kaylie Marshall – Athlete Spotlight -Presented By RibCrib

By Derrick Smith

Athletes spend a lot of time preparing both mentally and physically for competition. They know that if they put in the work and time that is requires, they will be at their best when it is time to play. Kaylie Marshall has worked hard and has also been able to enjoy the fruits of her labor.

“It has taken a lot for me to become the athlete that I am today,” she said. “I have put in a lot of hard work and dedication and because of that I have enjoyed some great moments on the court. There are a couplde of moments that I consider my highlight moments. The first was winning Piedmont’s first ever regional championship. The other would be going to state during my junior year.”

Marshall is in her senior year at Piedmont High School. She is a member of the volleyball and basketball teams and says that the people she plays alongside are the ones that keep her focused.

“I have really great teammates,” she said. “Not only do we get along well, but they also help me stay motivated and working hard.”

While she has put in a lot of effort, Kaylie knows that there are a few people that have been instrumental in her success.

“My parents are the biggest role models in my life,” she said. “They have always pushed me to be my very best. Also, Krystal Williams is someone that I look up to because she is the person that got me into volleyball.”

Piedmont’s volleyball coach, Tom Williams, says that Marshall is a highly decorated volleyball player and it is well deserved.

“Kaylie is one of the best hitters in the state,” Williams said. “She was the leading hitter on Piedmont’s team the last two years. She was Co-MVP of the Suburban Conference and Piedmont won the Conference last year. Kaylie led the team to its first State Tournament appearance ever and the team finished in the final four. Kaylie is a tremendous volleyball player.”

When she is not playing or practicing volleyball, Kaylie likes to catch up on her social media accounts. Out of all the people she follows, she say there is one the enjoys the most.

“My favorite is Sadie Robertson because she always has good words of wisdom and I like her messages about Jesus.”
