Tecumseh’s Cheyenne Hill – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by The Gordon Cooper Technology Center

By Chris Cox

Tecumseh senior Cheyenne Hill gets to work on her two passions nearly every day, cheerleading and health care.

As a Tecumseh cheerleader, she gets to do something she’s enjoyed since she was too young to actually participate.

“When I was little, I always enjoyed seeing the high school cheerleaders at the Friday night games and performing in the parade,” she says. “I also used to watch competitive cheer on TV and the ‘Bring It On’ movies. I’ve always enjoyed cheer.”

This year, Hill hopes she has the opportunity to try new, elite stunts and to get noticed and taken seriously as a cheerleader.

As a student in Gordon Cooper Technology Center’s Advanced Health Careers program, she also gets to hone her skills in what, she hopes, will be her career.

“I knew I wanted to be in the health field,” she says. “I had upperclassmen friends who were in the program and would tell me what all they got to do, and it sounded interesting, so I decided to apply. Growing up my dad was a former military member, a police officer, and a firefighter/EMT. He actually attended the EMT program at Gordon Cooper. Also, my grandma was an x-ray tech. I have grown up around the health field and witnessed first responders and their actions when responding to emergencies my entire life.”

Hill is excited about the opportunities being a student at Gordon Cooper brings.

“I did this program so I can start working and be ahead when I get to college,” she says. “This program is great because I get to meet other people interested in the same thing as me. I also like having the feeling and satisfaction of building for my future before even graduating high school.”

After high school, Hill plans on continuing her education at Gordon Cooper by attending the LPN program. She then plans to attend East Central University to work toward her RN degree and become a traveling nurse.

Outside of cheer and her studies at Gordon Cooper, Hill is involved with Link Crew, Youth Alive, NHS, NTHS, and her church.
