When an athlete joins a team, they are hoping to have a similar experience to what Kimberly Alvarez has had as a member of the Southeast High School volleyball team. She says that she is more than just a number and she does not know what she would do without her them.
“This team is like family to me,” she stated. “All my years of playing, everyone that I have ever played with I love them so much. Southeast Volleyball has the best program for volleyball I would really recommend.”
Alvarez is a senior at Southeast. She says getting to where she is today was not easy, but it had made her a better person and player.
“It has taken a lot of leadership, criticism, and most importantly hard work,” she said. “I worked so hard to be where I’m at right now. There are a few things that keep me motivated to keep working. The enjoyment of playing my sport, the challenge of competition and reaching new personal levels, and skill improvement.”
Throughout her life, as she has competed in sports at different levels, Kimberly has had two people that have always been by her side and are there to support her.
“My biggest role models have and will always be my parents, Juan Alvarez and Almendra Alvarez,” she said. “They are my biggest role models because they are very supportive especially when I need to decide on my own, they are always there on my side, not to be interfere in my plans but instead to give advice and support that I needed most. My parents make sure that they are on my side in every step of the way of our life. They have never gave me the idea that I couldn’t do anything I put my mind to.”
Outside of athletics, Kimberly is also a member of the Link Crew, which she is proud to be.
“The Link Crew is where you are assigned freshman and help them out throughout their freshman year so they can have a great year.”
