Mia Miranda is a junior at Edmond Santa Fe High School, where she is a three-year competitor on the Lady Wolves varsity cheer squad. Miranda was the cheer captain of the freshman team and now performs at varsity games and assemblies while also holding cheer clinics for younger children who are interested in cheering.
“My entire goal is to light up an audience, whether they’re students or parents, and get other people enthusiastic about a given event,” Miranda said. “The best part about cheer is getting to be involved in all sorts of activities and to bring positivity, and enthusiasm to anyone around the field or gym.”
Miranda also competes on the state cheer squad, which competes with other 6A schools across Oklahoma. Last season, the cheer team placed 4th in the all-girl 6A division, and the Lady Wolves have gone to state finals all three years of Miranda’s high school career.
Outside of cheer, Miranda is involved in national honor society, performs in the school choir, and competes with the show choir group called Finale. Last school year, Miranda helped raise $20,000 with her royalty fundraising group for the charity called Positive Tomorrows.
Miranda also works at Inspirations Tea Room, volunteers at the OKC Regional Food Bank, and helps with her family-run holiday light show “Miranda Family Lights”, which is a light show at her family home for the community to raise money for the OKC Regional Food Bank.
Upon graduation, Miranda plans to attend college and work toward becoming a nurse practitioner or physician’s assistant. Miranda credits her success in and out of cheer from her supportive community, parents, and coaches.
“My mom, day in and day out, is always there cheering me on from the stands, which has always meant so much to me,” Miranda said. “Coach Ortiz, my cheer coach, is always such an amazing leader for my team. I really appreciate how kind, understanding, and supportive she is both on and off the field. She always pushed me and my teammates to put forth our best effort and be the best cheerleaders we can be.”
