El Reno Indians

BOYS

Coach: Rodney Haydon

21-22 Record: 15-11

Coming into the 2022 season the El Reno Indians return several starters including VYPE Top 100 selectee Carter RomanNose (So.) at guard. Something coach Rodney Haydon is excited about this season. “We have four returning starters on a team that lost in area in overtime. With the return of freshman and suburban conference newcomer of the year Carter RomanNose and first team All-Conference James Reveles, we should have the experience and depth to take the next step,” said coach Haydon. RomanNose has the handles and stroke to be the go-to player in the Indian’s offense. Last season he averaged 16 points per game. Matt Tofpi (Sr.) and Evan RomanNose (Sr.) bring a lot of experience to the court for coach Haydon. Tofpi averaged 10 points a game with E. RomanNose going for 8.0 points each night. The trio of guards will be tough for anyone to contain. Jacob Robertson (Sr.) will start at center where his ability to grab boards and score will come into play. Robertson averaged 5.0 points a game. James Reveles (Sr.) was one of the top scoreres last season for the Indians averaging 17 points per contest. Reveles can get to the rim and score or kick out for open jumpers. Deonta Washington (Jr.) is a talented player who will see plenty of playing time this year after averaging 5.0 points a game as a sophomore. Other players to watch include Alex Elizondo (So.) at guard, Diante Palmer (Sr.) at guard, Jayden Robinson (Sr.) at center, Josiah Reveles (Jr.) at guard, Latin Everheart (So.) at guard, Elijah Fisher (So.) at guard and William Whitlow (Sr.) at guard.

GIRLS

Coach: Jennifer Douglas

21-22 Record: 24-5

With six seasons under her belt coaching at El Reno, Jennifer Douglas is eager to see what this group can accomplish this season. “Our team is going to be young and fun! The style of play will look different from the past four years. We have been predominately guard-heavy in the past, this year and next, we have quite a few bigs, therefore we will play to our strengths. Look for us to still push the ball in transition but bang it inside when need be. We will also continue to change up our defensive looks, per usual,” said coach Douglas. One player everyone is excited to see is Pauline Black-Harmon (5-10, Jr.) at forward. Black-Harmon averaged 10.4 points while playing an average of 24 minutes per game. She accounted for 205 rebounds, 33 steals, and 54 blocked shots. “In the state championship game versus McAlester, Pauline had 24 points and 15 rebounds,” said coach Douglas. Another player with high expectations is Emmary Elizondo (5-8, So.) who started for Sequoyah Tahlequah’s state tournament team as a freshman. Lilly Thomas (6-0, So.) averaged 14.9 points per contest with 229 total rebounds, 48 steals, and 40 blocked shots for the season. Thomas is outstanding in the post, but can push the ball in transition as well. Jaylynn Washington (5-6, So.) has great feel for the game and is not afraid of doing the dirty work. Coach Douglas said Washington has an “infectious spirit with amazing leadership qualities.” Nazhoni Sleeper (5-5, Jr.) is another guard who will be relied on for quality minutes. Sleeper averaged 3.4 points with 43 total rebounds.
