Guthrie’s Luke Hubbard – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Danielle Hill-Shelter Insurance

Luke Hubbard is a big fan of baseball. Whether he is playing or watching it, he is happiest when he is around the sport. He is a pitcher, first baseman, and outfielder for the Guthrie Blue Jays and has worked hard to become the athlete he is today. The work is important to but Luke also has had some great influences on his game.

“I’d say my biggest role model is my brother Brent Hodge,” he said. “He played baseball at Oklahoma University and is most definitely the best athlete I know, and also one of the most humble people I know. He’s one of those guys who really hasn’t ever met a stranger and is such a good example to me and everyone who knows him of what a good, God-fearing man should be like. Another person who is a massive influence on me is Reggie Callins, my trainer at RC fit. He was a four-sport athlete in high school and played in college as well. He gives me motivation every single day in the gym, and shows me what a real work ethic looks like.”

Currently, in his junior year, Hubbard has played in a lot of baseball games and he had made a lot of memories. Out of all of them, he says that there is one that stands out as his favorite.

“The highlight of my career has to be closing the Carl Albert game at home last year,” he recalled. “My teammate Zach Henry threw the best game I’ve seen anyone throw since coming to the high school. He took it into the seventh and I believe reached his pitch count and had to come out. When I came in we were up by a run with the bases loaded and none down. I ended up striking out the side to close out the game. It was no doubt the best moment of the season for me, and it was all thanks to Zach throwing a gem.”

Whenever he puts on his uniform and steps out on the field, Luke is proud to be representing his school and community.

“Honestly it means a lot to me to be a Bluejay. There’s a lot of history in Guthrie and being a member of its community is a privilege.”
