An athlete will only be as successful as the amount of effort and work they are willing to invest. Allison Hickey of Crossings Christian School knows what it takes and she has put in a lot to be successful.

“It has taken many long hours,” she said. “From long AAU practices to the long grind of January games, putting in the consistent effort has always been key. During summer team camps, I always make sure to be at the gym shooting at least an hour before practice starts. I want to show my teammates that I am willing to sacrifice for this team and they should also. I will arrive early, stay late, and come in on weekends. It takes a lot of self-motivation, but it’s all worth it when I see the payoff.”

A junior, Hickey has played multiple sports throughout high school. She plays basketball and runs track and cross country. Last season, she also played volleyball and soccer but decided to take a break this season.

No matter what sport she is competing in, Hickey is proud to be able to wear the Knights uniform.

“It’s very honoring and humbling to be able to represent my school and community through basketball,” she said. “I get to show who I am and also who my school is, a school built on work ethic and effort. Basketball brings a sense of pride and joy to my life, and it makes me glad to know that my school and community can share that pride and joy. Basketball has brought me an amazing community that I then get to share again with the people I love.”

There have been numerous moments during her playing time that Allison enjoys remembering. But she has one moment that she considers a highlight moment.

“I think at least one of my favorite moments was my freshman year playoffs when we were playing our cross-town rivals Oklahoma Christian School,” she recalled. “I really did not want to lose. I ended up hitting three threes and had eleven points in the first two minutes of the game. We won and loved to play another game. That was also my first career double-double which made it extra special.”
