Character Counts – Westmoore softball player Brooklyn Knight – Presented by RPT Physical Therapy

Everyone strives to be successful in whatever they do. Whether they are working in the business world, a stay at home parents, an athlete, or something else, they want to be the best that they can be. As a high school athlete, Brooklyn Knight has worked hard to become who she is today and she knows that she has to keep working to keep improving.

“In order to be successful in softball, you have to practice all the time,” Knight said. “Not just with your team, but also on your own time outside of regular practice. Staying motivated is also important because there will be days when you don’t feel like working. I keep myself motivated by having the desire to strive to get better.”

A senior at Westmoore High School, Brooklyn plays outfield for the Jaguars softball team. She also plays softball with a travel ball team. Away from sports, Knight is also a member of the National Honor Society.

Throughout her softball career, Brooklyn has had a lot of great experiences but she says that there is one that stands out as her favorite.

“A highlight in my career would be winning nationals with my travel ball team,” she stated. “It was a great experience and something I will not forget.”

Hillary Weaver is the head coach of the Westmoore slowpitch softball team. She says that Knight is more than just an outstanding softball player, she is also a great teammate.

“Brooklyn Knight is the type of player any coach would love to have,” coach Weaver said. “She is a leader by example, works hard, knows the game, and constantly picks up those around her. Although she may not be the quickest player or the strongest player, she is very consistent in her play and her emotions are always steady. She is someone who will always work hard and do what is right when a coach’s back is turned.”

While she has had a number of people that have helped her become the person and athlete that she is today, there is one person that Brooklyn looks up to the most.

“My sister Kaitlyn is my role model because she always has a positive attitude in whatever she is doing.”
