There are moments throughout an athlete’s career that are so important they are forever engrained in their memory. Cami Talley is a catcher for the Jones High School softball team and she says that her biggest moment is one that caught her off guard but she will never forget.
“A highlight moment in my career is starting on varsity my freshman year,” she recalled. “I thought I was going to only be on junior varsity but was very surprised when the first game came around I was told to put my gear on and warm up one of our pitchers.”
Along with softball, Talley, who is a junior, also is a member of the Lady Longhorns golf team. Outside of sports, she is also a member of student council, Key Club, and National Honor Society, and she serves as the representative for the junior class.
She has put in a lot of hard work throughout her career, but Talley says that her biggest motivation is to continue to work to keep her spot.
“A main motivator for me is to not let anyone think they can come to take my spot,” she said. “I make sure to put in the extra work so I know for sure it is mine.”
Throughout her life, there have been a number of people that have made an impact on Cami’s life and she said a few of those are her family.
“I think one of my biggest influences is my siblings,” Talley said. “I am the middle child so I always try to make sure I am known and try to be better than both of my siblings. My parents always push me to be my best and always try to have a good attitude when things get tough. A teacher that has had the biggest impact on my life is my softball and golf coach Kaylnn Hager. She always keeps me in check and has some great ‘dad’ jokes that she loves to share.”
