Some people hear the term “sibling rivalry” as a negative connotation. That is not the case for Allie and Abbie Justiz. Both are members of the Bishop McGuinness golf team and they both say that the other is the person that motivates them the most.
“We have always pushed each other in whatever athletic or scholarly event,” Allie said. “We have competed with each other since I can remember and this has pushed me to achieve my best. Abbie is constantly on my heels and forces me to continue to perform at a high level. I believe the only way to continue to improve in life is to have that competitiveness and motivation to want to be the best.”
Allie, a junior, and Abbie, a freshman, both have aspirations of competing at the next level and they are getting help from Corey Else at National Scouting Report to increase their chances of being seen.
“Working with Corey is going really well,” Allie said. “He has done a really good job of connecting me with schools that have similar interests as I do in academics and golf.”
Though she has a couple of years before things get serious, Abbie knows that it is never too early to start preparing for her future.
“My recruiting process has just begun,” she stated. “Being a freshman, college coaches are not able to contact me until the summer after sophomore year. Corey has done a really great job getting my profile to schools that I am interested in; even though they can’t contact me, they are aware of me and my accomplishments.”
Both girls attribute their success to a lot of hard work and the example of their parents.
“I come from a very athletic and competitive family,” Allie stated. “I believe much of my work values and determination were instilled by my family growing up with strong beliefs in earning what you achieve. My parents have taught me from an early age that to succeed in school and athletics I have to perform at the highest level to achieve greatness.”
While regular practice is important, Abbie says that it is those extra hours that can make the difference.
“Very often after practice I stay on the golf course with Allie and practice chipping, putting, as well as my long game.”
