North Rock Creek Cougars 2023 Football Team Preview – Presented by The Clinic Pharmacy

NORTH ROCK CREEK COUGARS

Coach: JASON MURRAY

3-7

OFFENSE – The Cougars are growing up quick. North Rock Creek’s fledgling program has now graduated two classes of seniors and is starting to make an impact across the board in all sports. Led by an experienced group of juniors, the Cougars are ready for the challenge in Class 3A. The offense is led by running back Caleb Hawkins (6-1, 190, JR). The hard charging Hawkins rushed for 671 yards and seven touchdowns as a sophomore. There is depth at quarterback with Landon Kelough (6-1, 195, JR) and Memphis Burdine (6-1, 175, SO). Kelough is the returning starter and Burdine is healthy after being injured in the first game a year ago. Both are capable of leading the offense. Calvin Bray (5-11, 170, SR) provides backfield depth. Tight end Maddox Motley (6-3, 180, SR) is a two-time state champion in the 110-meter high hurdles. He is the top pass catching threat for the offense. Graham Hill (6-0, 230, JR) and Andrew Ritter (6-0, 235, SR) anchor the offensive line where Austin Nickles (6-0, 215, JR) is looking to secure a spot in his first season out for football.

DEFENSE – Not many have a nose for the football like Caleb Hawkins (6-1, 190, JR). The Cougars defensive back made 70 tackles, grabbed eight interceptions and recovered four fumbles, two of which he returned for touchdowns. He will lead a defense that is strong up front. Maddox Motley (6-3, 180, SR) and Blaine Robinson (5-10, 180, JR) return at defensive end. Robinson brings toughness and a relentless motor to the front five. Calvin Bray (5-11, 170, SR), Ethan Nowakowski (5-11, 180, JR) and Kaiden Samuels (5-9, 170, JR) form a quality group of linebackers. Bray led the position with 64 tackles with Nowakowski and Samuels combining for 52 stops. Memphis Burdine (6-1, 175, SO) will utilize his speed and quickness in the secondary alongside Hawkins. The Cougars are building into a competitive squad. Three wins from a year ago is a jumping off point for what could be a much improved football team in 2023.
