Southmoore High School junior Mia Johnson started in gymnastics before moving to soccer and basketball only to eventually end up in volleyball.
“When I was growing up, I switched between a couple of sports, but ended up loving volleyball way more than any other sport I have played,” said Johnson.
Johnson loves being a student-athlete at Southmoore and the support the students receive from the faculty and the administration.
“Southmoore is such an amazing place to be a student-athlete because of the all the wonderful people who are their every step of the way for your journey through high school. The teachers at SHS are such amazing people and educators. Even so the coaches too are truly awesome people,” said Johnson.
The new season is underway, and Johnson is ready for a great season. “I am most excited for memories that this team will make. I am also excited to see how successful we are this year. We’ve got a really good group this year with team chemistry and talent. The girls are like my second family. They have seen me at my lowest and my highest. They have seen me cry and laugh. They truly are my best friends. Keep an eye on Jadyn Suthers, Miley Simo, and Mira Patel,” said Johnson.
In the classroom, Johnson said math is probably her favorite subject. “I’m a big fan of math. Although Spanish holds a decent amount of my heart. I love learning about the cultural things. I think my favorite teacher so far is either Kelly Johnson or Bridgette Cai,” said Johnson.
After high school, Johnson would like to attend college and study Physical Therapy or Kinesiology. Johnson also plays tennis and is a public announcer for SHS.
