Luke DeBusk – Jones High School
by Trina Walker
Growing up around Jones football, Luke DeBusk learned the love of the game. Listening to and hearing stories about his grandpa and dad gave him a goal to strive for.
“Watching all the guys ahead of me on Friday nights and just knowing what it would be like to play in such a great environment with the town supporting you,” is the best feeling says Luke.
“Now that I know what it’s like, I want to be able to put on a show every Friday night for the kids that are in the same position I was once in and be one of the greats to put on a Jones jersey,” he says.
As a sophomore and a multi-sport player at Jones High School, Luke has several years ahead of him to continue the Friday night show for kids to look up to.
“Just being able to put that sports jersey on and go out to battle whether it’s on the football field, baseball diamond or basketball court; representing Jones across my chest and wearing green and white means a lot,” says Luke.
Playing multiple sports is one reason Luke looks up to Bo Jackson. “He was a freak of nature and made it a long way in two sports,” he said.
Athletics has taught Luke that no matter the circumstance you have to keep fighting through adversity. Luke credits his mom for passing on the best advice. “‘Everybody’s holding their breath waiting for you to fail, let them suffocate!’ That’s always stuck with me and always will,” he said.
Luke wants to send a big shout out to his mom and dad for their support. “They are always running me around to every practice and game. I wouldn’t be where I am without them and I’m very thankful for y’all!”
