Asher junior Delanie Templeton doesn’t have any plans nailed down for her life after high school, but she does have an idea of what she wants to do.
“I’m not completely sure (of what I want to do),” she admits. “But a few options are criminal profiler, investigator, and anything to do with psychology.”
To help her gain a clearer understanding of what she might want to pursue, Templeton enrolled in Gordon Cooper Technology Center’s criminal justice program.
“It seemed like a very interesting program and can give me not only a lot of certifications but also job opportunities,” she says. “The program will help when applying for jobs. It will also give me a better understanding of what possible career paths are going to look like and prepare me for them.”
Her instructor at GCTC, Troy Thompson, believes her personality will allow her to succeed in any field she chooses.
“Delanie is a dedicated and focused individual,” Thompson says. “She is caring, intelligent, friendly and polite. Delanie leads by example and is motivated. She has an internal drive that most young people do not have.”
Outside of her work at Gordon Cooper, Delanie is involved with several things at Asher High School, including the basketball team.
“I played for Asher since pre-k,” she says. “After that, I started league ball in 2nd grade and have now played for 4 years for Asher Public Schools.”
While she initially started playing basketball at her parents’ insistence, she has grown to love the sport.
“I always seemed athletic to my parents and because of this basketball was pushed at a young age to play,” she says. “But very soon I realized how much I loved it and found more of who I am as a person through playing.”
Templeton is a versatile player for the Lady Indians and has played all five positions, but this year she wants to up her production.
“I want to become more of a scorer for our team,” she says. “As a team, I want to work hard together and get farther in playoffs.”
Along with basketball and the GCTC criminal justice program, Templeton is also involved in honor society, student council, prom community, and yearbook.
