Westmoore High School sophomore cheerleader Morgan Hatchell remembers growing up
watching the older cheerleaders at Friday night football games.
“My mom was a Westmoore cheer sponsor when I was little, and I always looked up to her
cheerleaders,” Hatchell said. “I don’t remember how old I was, but I did go to some of the
games.”
But Hatchell does remember how old she was when she got her start in the sport.
“I started tumbling classes when I was 6 and joined my first team when I was 7. I have done
competitive cheer since then,” Hatchell said. “I also did cheer at Brink [Junior High] in seventh
and eighth grade. And I joined the Westmoore varsity cheer team my freshman year.”

Since then, Hatchell has traveled to California, Indianapolis, Florida, Texas, Kansas City, New
Orleans and Gulf Shores, all for cheer competitions as a member of Tribe Cheer, the
organization she joined at 6 years old.
“I like getting to travel to compete with my friends and the teamwork,” Hatchell said. “I’ve been
to the summit National Championship at Disney World, and I am an NCA National Champion.
I’ve also won many other competitions.”
The talented student-athlete also prides herself in putting her grades first. When she isn’t at
practice or games playing the part of backspot and tumbler, she’s focusing on her studies,
baking something, spending time with family and friends or doing something crafty. She plans
on joining the National Honor Society next year.
“I have a 4.36 GPA, and I am planning on attending a good university to pursue a career in the
medical field,” Hatchell said.
Hatchell hopes to graduate with a GPA north of 4.0. She also wants to win NCA Nationals and
an OSSAA 6A state championship.
