When Mia Benson first played volleyball, she was in the eighth grade. Now a junior at Moore High School, Benson said basketball was her sport growing up, but volleyball is now her sport of choice.
“I started with basketball when I was eight. I wanted to try volleyball my 8th grade year because it looked fun and a few of my friends played. I ended up really loving the game and here we are,” said Benson. “The atmosphere for student athletes at Moore is the best. Nearly everyone is involved in some sport and all sports support each other, especially in big rival games. I really love the sports culture. Everyone is always there in their Moore Lion gear. My mom and I always laugh because you can’t even go to Walmart in Moore without seeing someone in a Moore Lion shirt.”
Benson said the team is more like a family and they have made some great memories this year.
“I feel like I am playing with my family. We are all super close and that makes for a strong bond on and off the court. I know I have met some lifelong besties because of volleyball. I am also very competitive and this team challenges each other to get better every day. My favorite moment this season was hosting the Regional tournament. That was a first for Moore volleyball and it was very special. We even recorded our reaction when rankings came out the last week of the season. It was an experience I want to relive next year,” said Benson.
In the classroom, Benson said her favorite subject is AP Language and Composition. The junior said she plans on studying Biology in college.
Benson is a member of National Honor Society, FUSE, and she’s a Moore Maniac. As for the Class of 2025?
“I would say the 2025 class is one of the most athletic. We are a class of competition, and we bring the challenge,” said Benson.
