Choctaw’s Katelyn Davis Athlete Spotlight

Becoming a successful athlete is not something that just happens overnight. The athlete has to be dedicated to improving their game and willing to work hard. Katelyn Davis is a basketball player for Choctaw High School and she says that along with the work, you also have to believe in yourself.

“It has taken more than just many hours in the gym to be successful,” she said. “My work in the gym was not showing on the court because I was not confident in myself. Confidence is one of the most important aspects of my success.”

Davis, a senior, says that she has looked forward to playing sports for Choctaw for as long as she can remember.

“Since I was little I always looked up to the Choctaw girls basketball players,” Davis said. “I looked forward to the day I could be like them. Now that I am, I hope to be a role model just like the previous players were to me.”

Throughout her time playing sports, Davis has made a lot of memories on and off the court. But she says her favorite one was a shot she hit last season.

“My highlight moment happened during the Midwest City game my junior year,” Kately stated. “I hit a three-fourth-court shot at the buzzer to tie the game and bring us into overtime.”

Davis says that along with the hard work, she has had an amazing support system that has been in her corner and helped shape her into the athlete and person that she is today.

“The biggest influences in my life are my parents,” she said. “They have always supported me, not just in basketball but in life. They push me to be a better person. Another would be my fifth grade teacher Mrs. Ackiss has had the biggest impact on my life. She always believed in me and taught me what it means to be a strong woman. She helped me understand that hard work is necessary for success. And God is my biggest motivation. I do everything I do for God’s glory.”

The teammates that she competes alongside each game are another group that Katelyn is thankful for. They do a great job of helping each other get better.

“My favorite teammate to work against in practice is Aliyah,” Davis said. “Her defense is like no other. We never take it easy on each other but always still have fun. And I think the whole junior varsity team is underappreciated. They constantly push me in practice and help scout before games. They are a big reason for our team’s success.”

Along with playing basketball, Katelyn is also a member of the National Honor Society. She also participates in various volunteer projects around her school.
