Kitelyn Higgins, a sophomore at Jones High School, is a triple threat when it comes to athletics since she participates in basketball, softball and track.
“I really enjoy playing sports; it is fun to me,” she said. “I also like the bonds I have with all my teammates. For softball and basketball, I just love the game. They’re both completely different, but I love all the aspects of them. In track, I just do high jump and long jump and I enjoy that.”
Throughout her time playing many sports throughout her high school career, Higgins says she has learned many valuable lessons.
“Playing sports has taught me about relationships with other people and that you cannot do everything yourself,” she said. “I have learned you need other people when playing sports and you have to have trust with other people because you can’t do everything yourself.”
When reflecting on some of her favorite memories throughout her athletic career, Higgins says hitting her first homerun and grand slam this year as well as her basketball team winning the state title last year are memories that come to mind.
In addition to athletics being a large part of her life, Higgins prioritizes the academic side of her life as well.
“I really pride myself in my grades,” she said. “I like having all A’s, and it doesn’t really suit me to get bade grades, even if I have a B. This has pushed me to be in the top 10% of my class as well as being a part of the Honors Program at my high school. I would like to successfully complete that and possibly be valedictorian by the time I graduate.”
Two people Higgins say have affected her life are her parents because of the example they set for her.
“I think both my parents really impact my life a lot,” she said. “They are always there for me and supporting me at every with anything I do. They have also taught me how to treat other people and how to take pride in what I do.”
