A basketball player for the last 12 years, Audrey Bertman is now a senior at Norman North High School and a member of the varsity basketball team. Bertman said the team is coming together and preparing for the second half of the season.
“We are coming together well. We all are learning each other’s style of playing to come together as a cohesive group,” said Bertman. “What I love most about my teammates is we are able to joke around and still be serious. Also, the passion that each of my teammates have to further themselves in basketball.”
The same sentiment from Bertman applies to being a student-athlete at Norman North. It’s the support from the staff, faculty, and administration that makes being a student at North special.
“I love the support we receive from our school but also the bonds we have between other athletes at our school,” said Bertman.
The goal for this season is the same as every team in Class 6A. Getting to the state tournament means a chance to compete for a state title.
“My goal for the season is to improve my game and help our team to qualify for state. The most improved part of my game is becoming a strong defender,” said Bertman.
As a student, Bertman is a member of National Honor Society, SPUD (Student Performing Unselfish Deeds), Project Linus, Rotary Club, and several others. Science is her favorite subject. As for her favorite teacher?
Science is my favorite subject; however, my favorite teacher is Mr. Zaragoza who was my U.S. History teacher,” said Bertman.
Bertman is making plans for life after high school. “After I graduate, I am going to attend The University of Oklahoma to further my education and obtain a degree in nursing,” said Bertman.
