George Gouldsby is a multi-sport athlete. Playing baseball and football has taught him the focus and determination to push through obstacles on and off the field. This senior at Del City High School uses his passion for playing sports as motivation to do well in school.
“When I first started sports, I was four playing-up with six-year-olds. My uncle introduced me to baseball and bought me my first glove,” said George.
George’s favorite part about being on a team is the brotherhood and knowing you can depend on one another. He says the process it takes to build a team strengthens bonds amongst the guys.
Outfielder Mookie Betts is the pro athlete he looks up to. George sees himself in Mookie in how he always finds a way to get better and improve. George says teammate, Blake Barker, has left the biggest impression for always pushing him towards his goals.
Ms. Ritchie is his favorite teacher. “She understands me and knows how passionate I am and also her care for students,” says George.
“I want to thank my mom, grandma, and dad for always pushing me to be my best me and keeping me on the right track. I thank God for blessing me with the talent and keeping me up-lifted.” George says he most admires his mom. “I have just watched all her hard work and the time she puts in.”
George could not be here without the support of his school and coaches. He will always remember the best times of playing in the state tournament football game with his teammates and all the hard work it took to get there.
The advice George uses to stay motivated is simple. “Write your own story, create your own path and never give up on yourself and what you believe in!”
