Jones High School junior, Jazlyn Ross, has served as a team manager for the girls basketball team for the last four years. The experience has been a rewarding one.
“What I love most about being a team manager at Jones HS is that I have made a lot of new friends and gotten close with my team. I was always a shy person so being manager helped me get out of my comfort zone,” said Ross. “The best thing about being a manager is watching the girls evolve into great players. I love the bonds I have with the coaches and I wouldn’t trade this for anything.”
Like any member of the team, Ross said she helps coach Holbrook and the team with anything they need.
“The goal for this season is to defend our state title and become 4-time state champions. Also to get closer as a team and spend as much time together because we won’t get this time back. I help coach Holbrook out in many ways. I help keep her organized, I make sure she has everything she needs, straighten her hair sometimes, and always make sure she’s the most fly coach out on the floor,” said Ross.
The players on the team appreciate what Ross does for the group.
“What I love most about my team is how we’re willing to fight for each other and how supportive we are for one another. My teammates really are like my family,” said Ross.
Ross is a member of the National Honor Society and said her favorite subject in school is Algebra 3. Ross also mentioned her favorite teacher is coach Young. As for the future, Ross said she is looking forward to going to college.
“I would like to go to an HBCU and study medicine to become an Orthopedic Surgeon. After I get my license, I would like to become an NBA Orthopedic Surgeon,” said Ross.
