Haley Breslin
Choctaw High School
When freshman Haley Breslin decided to give wrestling a try, she knew it would be tough, but she was up for the challenge.
Now that the season is over and she has a year of experience behind her, Breslin is a wrestler to watch for the next three years.
“I’m not sure what to expect for the team next season all I know is I will stick with wrestling while I’m in high school and will support my teammates,” said Breslin.
Being part of the team has been a great experience. Breslin said her teammates are more like family and she is looking forward to growing and improving on the mat.
“I love being a student-athlete because it pushes me to work hard and stay on task. I love my teammates; they are family they support me no matter what and always push me to be the best. They are always there for me,” said Breslin.
Wrestling has been the focus this season, but Breslin said she is focused on her grades and may consider other clubs at school to join.
“My favorite subject is English, I love writing short stories, books, and I love reading. I’m currently not in any clubs right now I manly focus on my wrestling and my schoolwork. I would love to join the art club, art is a big part of my life,” said Breslin.
Success on the mat is not easy. Breslin is a hard worker and is willing to do whatever it takes to find that success.
“This season has been pretty good. My very first tournament I placed third out of six, and a highlight for me would be me finally being able to push myself to be the best person I can be, wrestling has taught me so much, and I’m grateful for my coach pushing me and always supporting me,” said Breslin.
As a freshman, it’s tough to know what life looks like after high school, however, Breslin does have some ideas.
“After I graduate, I’m not sure what I would like to do. I would love to go to a college with an amazing art program and I love making music. I also plan on joining the U.S. Army like most of my family.”
