Choctaw’s Lainey Stevens Athlete Spotlight Presented by Landers Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Norman

Lainey Stevens

Choctaw High School

VYPE: Lainey, what grade are you in and how long have you played golf?

Stevens: I am in my senior year of high school. I have played golf for fun since seventh grade, but I didn’t start competing until sophomore year.

VYPE: What do you enjoy most about being a student-athlete at Choctaw HS?

Stevens: Being a student-athlete at Choctaw is unmatched. I enjoy the support from all of the other sports and the teachers the most. Every sport at Choctaw wants to see other sports succeed, and I am grateful to be apart of a district like that.

VYPE: Do you have a favorite course to play?

Stevens: My favorite course I’ve played is Hillcrest Country Club.

VYPE: Do you belong to any clubs or groups at CHS?

Stevens: I am a member of National Honor Society, Oklahoma Honor Society, Student Council, and Senior Board. I am also a “Girl of the Month” for the Choctaw Nicoma Park Women’s Business Club.

VYPE: What do you love most about your team and teammates?

Stevens: I love that my teammates push me to be better as a golfer and a person. While we are all best friends, we are always competing against each other.

VYPE: What area of your game have you worked to improve coming into the new season?

Stevens: This season I have been working to improve my short game more than anything. Working on placing my chips better, and making minor adjustments to my putting stroke.

VYPE: What are your plans after you graduate?

Stevens: After graduating I will attend Redlands Community College on a golf scholarship. I will pursue a nursing degree in pursuit of becoming a certified registered nurse anesthetist.

VYPE: What is the most difficult part about playing tournament style golf?

Stevens: The nerves. Tournament style golf is a lot more pressure opposed to casual golf. Learning how to control your nerves and remain confident in your swing and game is crucial.

VYPE: What is the goal for this season?

Stevens: The goal for this season is to win at least one tournament individually, attend State as a team, and most importantly have fun!
