OFFENSE

The Bulldogs return seven offensive starters from a team that struggled a year ago. But first-year head coach Logan Thomas has a bright outlook on the upcoming season. “We are very excited to get to work with this group of great kids,” he said. “With the new coaching staff and new system, there is a buzz around the locker room and the school. The team is looking forward to a great summer and taking that momentum into the fall.” Leading the offense at quarterback this year will be Markell Johnson (6-4, 200, Jr.). There are two returning linemen that will be there to protect Johnson. Will Morris (6-4, 250, Jr.) and Clay Owen (5-10, 230, Jr.) return after starting every game a year ago. Johnson will also have some returning weapons at his disposal. Luke Hankins (6-1, 190, Sr.) returns to play tight end after pulling in twenty catches a year ago. Switching between tight end and fullback will be Camden Peck (6-1, 205, Jr.), who looks to be a go-to weapon this season. After registering 350 receiving yards during his sophomore year, Logan Grayson (6-2, 185, Jr.) could be a key player for the team.

Jacob Varnell

DEFENSE

Last season saw the Bulldog defense give up an average of thirty-seven points per game, but Thomas looks to turn that around and says his team will lean on one unit in particular. “We will rely on our two inside backers to cover sideline to sideline,” the coach stated. “This unit will set the tone for our team.” The duo of Jacob Varnell (6-0, 205, Sr.) and Kiefer Mullins (6-0, 190, Jr.) will be the leaders of that unit. They combined for 135 tackles and three sacks last season and will expand that number this year. The defensive line will work hard to get to the opposing quarterback and make him feel pressured. Robert Dunham (6-3, 245, Jr.) started every game at defensive tackle last season, while J’Quan Whitfield (6-1, 230, Sr.) registered 40 tackles and six sacks at the defensive end position. Both are ready to hit the field and make a bigger impact this season. Defensive backs Jeremiah Robinson-Pope (5-11, 165, Jr.) and Trenton Moseley (6-1, 185, Sr.) wreaked havoc last season with a combined 51 tackles and thirteen pass breakups and plan on the same this season.
