RUSSELL COOK
4-5
OFFENSE
The El Reno Indians are coming off of a season where they struggled to a 4-6 record. Russell Cook is the new head coach at the helm of the program and is looking to turn things around, although he knows it will bring its challenges. “This program has undergone a lot of changes this offseason,” coach Cook said. “Along with me being a new head coach, there is a new coaching staff, a new system, a new tough district to compete. There will be a lot of growth and challenges ahead, but we will be ready to take them on.” The Indians will run a spread offense but will also take whatever the defense gives them. Leading the offense at quarterback will be Cooper Park (6-1, 190, Jr.), who will have a number of weapons to get the ball to. Running back Malachi Nicholson (5-10, 185, Jr.) is back after carrying the ball thirty-four times for 647 yards and eight touchdowns. Also, stepping up to play a bigger role this season at running back will be Latin Everheart (5-6, 135, So.). After tallying 130 receiving yards and four touchdowns last season, Devonne Smith is back to make a bigger impact on the Indian offense during his final season of high school football. Evan RomanNose (6-3, 180, Sr.) is an outstanding athlete and can play wherever he needs to be.
DEFENSE
Coach Cook’s defense is full of hard workers that are ready to shut down opponents. “We will run a 4-2-5 defense,” coach Cook said. “We will be multiple and stop the run.” Taking care of things on the front line will be Nate Karty (6-0, 200, Sr.) and Ryan Sigler (6-0, 200, Sr.). They will work hard to be a disruption to opposing offenses. William Elledge (6-1, 175, Jr.) will maintain things at the linebacker position. He has worked hard this offseason and is ready to step up and make a larger impact. RomanNose and Smith will patrol the secondary and look to shut down the passing game when the other team is looking for a big play. Assistant coaches this season are Graham Snelding, Bily Sexton, Mike Pruitt, Zac Speer, Justin Brown, Brad Baker, Darren Cooley, Alex RoughFace, and Layton Hockersmith.
